Occasionally you see an old car, maybe a dinged up Studebaker or an ancient Ford 100 series truck from around 1953 on the road. It sticks out like a sore thumb in the traffic the Hondas and Nissans. It’s loud, busted up and as ancient as dirt. That encounter, while fleeting and rare, still gives you a warm feeling of nostalgia for an era gone by, whether you were personally a part of that era or not.
Kurt, though only in his 20’s, is the DJ equivalent of that experience.
There’s only vinyl here. There are no digital edits. Some of these records were begging for table scraps at the Last Supper. There’s no rush to play the next artist you never heard of six months before their first track comes out. In fact, unless you’re in a shitty warehouse in the mid-south part of these United States, you probably won’t ever see Kool Disko Kurt, who spends far more of his time being a cyclist and traditional architecture artisan than being a DJ.
It’s from that point of view that we arrive at this mix, “Dusty Records,” an appropriate title, to say the least. We think you’ll enjoy it as much as we did. It’s a fine mix for a nostalgic summer night…just like tonight.
